We had such fun celebrating Saskia's first birthday a few weeks ago. We had some red sauce pasta (her favorite meal) and then a vanilla bean cake that Bob made.. per tradition we let her grab some handfuls before we ate it!
She has been enjoying her gifts including a dolly from Grandma and Grandpa Jones, and a package of pretty headbands from the N.C. aunties! I suspect that she enjoyed the package even more than the headbands :D
She is at such a fun age. She is learning lots of new words-- just today she said "blobfish" (google it!)
She says hi and bye and waves, and is getting more enthusiastic about walking around outside. She's been climbing up our stairs for probably 2 or 3 months now. Until recently she would make little warning noises ("mmm! mmm! mmm!") to let us know she was going up the stairs so that we could spot her. Now she apparently thinks she doesn't need help, which means that we have to be a bit more careful about leaving her alone downstairs.
She loves her big brother and often asks to see him when she first wakes up ("TehTen! Buddeh!") but she has no problem communicating when he is bothering her. If he takes a toy or hurts her, she makes a really loud kind of honking noise to get our attention. Her latest hobby is grabbing all of his clean socks out of his sock drawer and running around triumphantly with them. T does not approve, and likes to tell her "Uncool, Sassy!"
She is still firmly attached to mama (me) and doesn't like it when I go downstairs without her. But she is totally comfortable with daddy too and after a few minutes of sadness, does quite well when he is taking care of her.
She loves to dance and has a special appreciation for Sam Smith.
We love you, Saskia Juniper!
