Life with Baby A

To our delight, we are now a family of five! Bob and I just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary yesterday, a milestone made sweeter by little Asa Theodore's arrival exactly three weeks earlier. We are so grateful for each of our three happy, healthy children, and for each other.

Asa by the numbers:

Birth weight: 8 lb 6 oz
Birth length: 20.5 inches
Time from 5 cm dilated till born: 40 minutes. Wow was that a roller coaster of a 40 minutes!
Longest nighttime sleep block so far: 3 hours
Typical longest nighttime sleep block: 2 hours

Asa likes being held by his parents. He calms down easily in his daddy's arms. He also really enjoys being outside, in the Ergo or K'tan wrap. He gets very still and watchful, often folding his hands together in a distinguished pose. He likes to look at our twinkly Christmas tree!

Asa does NOT like cold wipes during diaper changes, pacifiers (most of the time- though we do use them, it takes some convincing each time), and riding in the car. He gets fussy in the evenings sometimes, and is calmed by being swaddled up, bounced while being held vertically, shushed and given a pacifier.

He is nursing really well, weighed in at 9 lb 3 oz  at 10 days of age and today, successfully took his first bottle of breastmilk. Hurray for Asa!

Tressan and Saskia dote on their little brother, and are already helping us to figure out what he wants or needs. Saskia very sweetly will get pillows, pacifiers, or anything else she thinks he wants. Tressan likes to sing funny Asa songs to his brother. They are also doing a lovely job of taking care of themselves/each other in the mornings to let Bob and I sleep in a bit.

In a few days they will return to school and Bob to work.
